General Terms and Conditions

COSI - General Conditions

COSI commits itself to providing Spanish Language Classes to the student(s) under the program and schedule specified in the enrollment form.  Unless agreed otherwise, regular programs take place from Monday through Friday.


  • Enrollment Form

In order to receive classes under any of the programs offered by COSI, the agency must complete the corresponding enrollment form.

  • Programs

COSI offers the following programs:

A and B program: Classes are held (A program) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with two ten-minute breaks. Students are placed in either morning or afternoon classes depending on class availability. If no group can be formed at the student's level, for every 2 hours of group classes the student will instead receive 1 hour of private tutoring.

In the event that no group can be formed, the student will receive two hours of private tutoring per day for the same price as the group program.

B program is a private tutoring program from 8 a.m. to 12 noon or from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 with two ten-minute breaks.

COSI places the student in the morning or afternoon program depending on the availability.

DA or DB program: Beach Program – the same as above; only the location is different: Manuel Antonio

C program: Combined Program from 8 a.m. to 12 noon with two ten-minute breaks, and afternoon classes from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (with one ten-minute break). It is also possible to participate at this program in Manuel Antonio.

Any changes in the program itself or in the schedule must be advised to the Spanish Program coordinator at least one week in advance.

  • Changes in the Content of the Programs

In special cases, the characteristics of the program may vary at the student’s request.  Any request must be notified to the Spanish Program Coordinator at least one week in advance.

  • Level Changes:

If the student feels uncomfortable with the group level, he/she may request a revision to the Spanish Program Coordinator.  Only the Coordinator is authorized to determine if the student’s level assignment is correct or not.

  • Groups:

The maximum number of students in a group is 8.  Additional students may be incorporated at any time to groups with fewer than 8 students.

COSI will, if it deems it necessary, vary the conformation of groups to ensure the best possible progress of all the students.

  • Starting Date:

Classes may start any day, preferably on Monday.

  • Program Duration:

Students may attend classes for as long as they want. They enroll for a certain period of time, but they can extend their stay at COSI if they wish to.

Students may interrupt their classes for one week or more and continue later, but they must advise COSI at least one week in advance.

  • Tuition

Tuition is non-refundable. Only under very special circumstances (such as serious illness, etc.), 50% of the program can be refunded.

  • Tuition covers the following:

- Airport pick-up in San Jose.

- Placement Test and the “First Day” Orientation.

- Lessons with a teacher.

- Study materials such as books; drill sheets and additional class materials deemed necessary. (Dictionaries are not included.)

  • Additional Services not covered by tuition offered at a cost rate :

-Access to Internet.

- International phone services.

- Outgoing international Fax service.

- Additional activities (such as tours, etc.).

- Health insurance.

Please note that the cost of these services may vary.


  • Student Departure

COSI does not cover the fee for the trip to the airport for the student(s)’ departure.  The trip will be at the student’s expense. 

  • Tour Reservations

COSI will also facilitate information to the student(s) regarding tours.  Tours are not covered in the tuition and their prices may vary according to locations, services and the season.  COSI staff will make the arrangements for reservations on behalf of the student(s) at no additional cost.

  • Class Suspension

Students may suspend their classes by providing a minimum one-week advance notice to the Spanish Program Coordinator.  Students who suspend or cancel their classes the same week will not be able to make up the lost lessons and will have to pay for them.

There is no refund once the program has started.

  • Holidays:

The School is open all year round except for the following holidays: 

  • January 1st,
  • Good Thursday and Good Friday on Easter,
  • May 1st and,
  • August 15th
  • December 25th.

Students have the option, subject to previous agreement, of either requesting to not pay for those days or to make up the lost classes.

  • Lodging under the Homestay Program.

A student will get a private room and keys to the house. Breakfast, dinner and laundry service are all included in the price. Price does not include lunch. A student is responsible for the keys of the house.  If the keys are lost, he/she will have to pay for the replacement of the locks.

No overnight visitors are permitted.

The price students pay is per week, regardless of whether or not the student stays with the family during weekends.

Under special circumstances and at the student’s request he/she may be moved.

  • Beach Program:

The Beach Program’s cost include transportation by public bus from San Jose to Manuel Antonio, airport pick-up in San Jose, tuition, books and other teaching materials (dictionaries are not included).  Additional recreational activities are not covered and will be charged at cost to the student(s).

  • Payment Policy:

The agency will pay for the student’s stay at COSI prior to his/her arrival (see above).

  • Teacher Rotation

Teachers will be assigned on a weekly basis.  COSI will consider student’s requests but cannot guarantee that all requests will be implemented.  As a general rule, teachers will rotate every week.

  • COSI’s Responsibility.

COSI does not assume responsibility and will not be held liable for the following:

  • Tour reservations or cancellations. Any arrangements done at the student’s request will be the sole responsibility of the student.
  • Accidents, personal injuries, loss of property, harassment, or any conduct that may harm students in their homestay or Beach program locations or during the transit to those sites that do not fall under COSI’s responsibility. Unless a COSI employee is directly involved and solely responsible in the conduct bearing damages to the student, COSI is not liable.

High school program and other special programs are subject of conditions stated in Agent’s Manual and current price list.
